A&K M249 has arrived!

Well after a few minor delays we have an A&K M249 SAW Para in our workshop.

Although we have yet to fully test the SAW, we do have some pictures and basic stats to report.

First the available raw data:

Price: $249.95
Source: Airsplat
Length: 31.25"-35.5" (Stock collapsed/ extended).
Weight: 14.5-15 lbs (Loaded/unloaded)
FPS: 340-360 (.2g)
ROF: 16 bbs/sec or 960 bbs/min using the stock 8.4v 1100mAh battery

As you can see this is not a light airsoft gun tipping the scales at almost the same weight as the real thing (Unloaded). We will almost certainly be utilizing a sling of some kind. The reason for the bulk is primarily the significant amount of metal used in the construction.

Most people who order the SAW will likely have gotten it because they enjoy the role of support gunner. I.e. they dont mind the weight. That said, the finish is pretty good, not "Wow" but pretty good.

The "Para" model comes with a shortened barrel and a collapse able stock.

We requested this model because we figured it would be the most maneuverable of the three model types offered. (MK1, MKII and the Para).

Our video review will cover all of the unique details of this offering but in summary here are the coolest features:

FYI,

we concluded a great skirmish on Saturday that went well into the night.

The M249 was an instant favorite and dominated the field.

Part of its success was based in its intimidation factor and of course its 2400 electric drum mag :)

The ability to keep heads down was invaluable!

The sound activated drum mag worked like a charm and kept the SAW fed and fed well.

We had reports of our bbs tearing through underbrush with ease and had some great "kills" at range.

The couple of complaints we had were easily remedied and one is minor.

#1. The small chamber under the pistol grip has a weak spring and easily pops open. This is a minor irritant and can be easily fixed with a small screw, tape etc...

#2. The panel on the side of the drum mag pops off pretty easily and it caused us to lose half a mag accidentally. The quick infield fix was some electrical tape, but we would prefer to find a better solution.

We haven't had this much fun with a new airsoft offering in a while.

Given that Airsplat.com sells it for $250 we feel its a real deal. With its all metal construction and superior ammo capacity we feel its worth every penny and then some.

Especially given that the next closest offering costs more than double.
