CA AR-10 First Look

Step right up boys and girls we have a genuine, bonafide Classic Army AR-10 in the work shop and lots pictures for all!

We literally got the package in this afternoon from Spartan Imports.

After eagerly tearing open the packaging we were face to face with new, full metal AR-10 in all its glory.

Want rail? You got it! Lots of it actually and its not going ANYWHERE. Not a trace of barrel wobble!

Want to have some fun slapping the bolt back into battery after pulling it back to expose the hop up. HAVE AT IT!

Want to shoot .2g bbs at 430 fps STOCK?!? Just pull the trigger!

In fairness, we are always excited about every new airsoft gun that makes its way into our eager hands.

Not withstanding some initial excitement, our initial impressions are good, but they are still being fully formulated. So far the only fault that we have found with the design is the magazine. For some reason the magazine does not seat within the well easily. Its possible that this problem is one that will go away as the break in period passes and we'll keep you updated on that issue.

Aside from that concern, the rest of the gun is beautiful! The fore grip feels like it is solid enough to hit home runs with and the trademarks are well placed . The switch gear, both functional and otherwise, has positive engagement with tactile and auditory "clicks". The sights are just cool and of course the charging handle bolt release will never get old.

Granted, this hardware isn't exactly found in the clearance bin. For roughly $380.00 this offering had better have its act together. Still, good is good.

We don't usually go into the real steel history of an airsoft model's namesake, but given the relative obscurity of the AR-10 we decided to deviate from this path for this review.

In case you've never heard of the "AR-10" there is a decent entry on Wikipedia on the subject with its list of citations.

In short the AR-10 was/is the 7.62mm American version of a redheaded step child.
The M14 and M16 made it onto the front lines the most, with production numbers that dwarfed that of the AR-10.

However, it appears that the AR-10 was actually unfairly reviewed during military testing and was in fact a superior weapon. Reports show that its design was inherently accurate and of course it utilized a more powerful cartridge than the new 5.56 AKA .223 "Poodle Shooters".

Now Classic Army has released what we like to call an "Updated" version of the AR-10 platform, so all you re-enactors will need to scrounge up some retro fore grips if you want to get your "Nam" on.

The rest of us will be rocking an old school name in a decidedly modern manner.

Stay tuned for the video "Quick Take"!
